bio: A favorable environment is the onset for growth, the birth of Ishtar can be seen under this light. Luciano Cantone and Davide Rosa shared a common desire to create new grounds that could be expanded by a new market that was starting to develop. Schema Records was the outcome of the favorable conditions created by Luciano & Davide with the collaboration of Nicola Conte.
The initial projects like the Paolo Achenza trio and Quintetto X established further grounds for this collaboration to grow over the years, and bloom into Schema at the beginning of 1997. Although the roots of the label are mainly influenced by jazz and bossa nova, Schema has an appeal for all kinds of music and embraces true experimentation since its the real knowledge of our past mixed with today?s technologies that makes the true basis of music making in this 3rd millenium.
Schema records has grown extensively since its launch, and is by far, Ishtar?s biggest asset. As mentioned above, Nicola Conte is present at various levels, representing Schema?s largest selling artist and includes productions like, Balan?o, Gianluca Petrella and the Fez File compilation but will also include the forth coming debut album of Rosalia de Souza due for release in October 2002.
Rosalia is also present in many works for Schema like the first release by Les Hommes, which have a new album due for release the 25th of March 2002. Artists that also have been licensed all over the world on Schema are S-Tone Inc. and Soulstance.
During this period the Break n? Bossa compilations has seen a great expansion making quite a name for itself and now sees the release of its fifth chapter which includes two cds, one mixed by Luciano himself. This is a glad come back for Luciano that just didn?t have any time play but now promises to be once again active.
Schema has kept it vision well focused in great part thanks to one man in particular, Gerardo Frisina. His extensive collection and general knowledge of music have contributed greatly to the shaping of Schema and its sound. In this family affair things have been complementary for each other and all supported by a common philosophy: the research of new styles to propose a new sound that is able to change because its roots spread in all directions.
For the future we focus on making concrete all we have made concrete in the past trying not to loose our identity by always trying to stay ahead and not be chasing or in other words, hoping to impose our idea in the market instead of following.
