bio: It started with a? shop NEWS originates from a record shop in Ghent: the legendary Music Man shop. Due to ongoing success, the shop was transformed into a well structured record company, spreading the vibes all over the world, North East West South!
NEWS employs almost 30 people in Benelux, with the main office in Ghent-Belgium and a branch in Hilversum-Netherlands. With this team, NEWS has set up a wide variety of labels and manages a diversity of own releases on vinyl and CD. Through a network of distribution partners all over the world NEWS assures global distribution of its product.
Above those activities, lots of (exclusive) distribution deals (mainly for the Benelux territory, but also worldwide) with other record companies from all over the world (Indies and majors) are negociated. In 1993 a close distribution partnership was set up with BMG, for the Benelux territory. During that period, different aspects of the company (like IT, reporting) were built up to a high level.
In 2003 a new distribution partner was found: Play It Again Sam. 2 Belgian Indies, finding each other in order to cope with the fast changes in the music market.
NEWS has finally found his optimal structure and is the undisputed number one on the Benelux dance market, however with a strong artist roster NEWS is crossing these borders into the alternative rock market. The system of double distribution - NEWS deals with the specialised market and PIAS with the general stores - has been fine-tuned in order to become the undisputed market leader in the independent sector.
