bio:
Personal info
Martin McFaul grew up with his mother, stepfather and younger brother in Gothenburg in Sweden.
His father is from Scotland, but the last name, McFaul, is originally Irish. Today Martin lives with his girlfriend
and their three children in Gothenburg.
His brother is a composer within art music.

About the new record
- There is something unplanned on the record, though there is a significant notion. The songs have been formed organically. What appeals to me
is when I see how a song turns into something I couldn’t foresee. Still it is not to be overdone.
On the record, there are a few contributors; Martin Hederos (The Soundtrack Of Our Lives), Jukka Rintamäki (Silverbullit), Johannes Kanschat (Hello Goodbye)
Lars Melin (drummer, actor and director) and Johan Forsman (producer of TSOOL, Håkan Hellström och Ceasars).
- I watched an excellent Japanese movie where The Mamas & The Papas hit single “California Dreamin” was the sporadic soundtrack.
I was fiddling with my guitar, then suddenly the “Train”- melody emerged. It was a strange moment.
- Somehow I got positive feedback on “Train” which inspired me to continue doing things. My dream was to release an album.
The artwork of the EP and the album is made by Martin’s girlfriend – the artist and designer Paula Wallmark-Nilsson.
- It’s interesting for the result of the whole that Paula designs the sleeves. She is free to do whatever she wants to, almost.

Musical background
Martin McFaul was brought up with jazz, blues, folk and classical music. Jan Johansson, Georg Riedel and Monica Zetterlund, but also Jojje Wadenius
Louis Armstrong, TrBob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin are important artists of Martin’s childhood.
He also remembers listening to Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins and Elvis. And then Beatles, of course.
- My mother used to play music at home. Me, I played flute and clarinet. One day I found a guitar stocked in the wardrobe
where I also found Beatles’ ”Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. I became fond of rock music through Beatles.
Martin started to take lessons in classical guitar. One day his uncle gave him a LP with the group Kinks. It left a great impression.
- Above all it was the melancholic feeling that I fell for. What generally inspires me are songs with beautiful melodies. The category is less important.
As a teenager Martin played in several garage inspired bands, one of them, together with his schoolmate Lars Melin.
At Sprängkullen and Rockers Club, Martin went frequently to see new punk bands.
The winter of 99’ Martin McFaul played with the temporary group The Senators (with Lars Melin)
and made the music for the stage play Eréndira at Teater Bhopa in Gothenburg.
At that time he met Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm from The Soundtracks of Our Lives, who suggested that Martin should record some more music in Kalle’s studio.
A few years later Martin McFaul made the music for the poetry record “Poetry And Music” together with the Swedish poet Lina Ekdahl.
Shortly afterwards he met Jukka Rintamäki from Silverbullit. Rintamäki was the head producer of Martin’s first EP, “Maybe You And Me EP”.

On inspiration
- The songs I like have one thing in common – strong melodies. It doesn’t matter if it’s Swedish jazz or new wave. But I’ve listened a lot to artists as Beach Boys
Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Soft Machine, Sandy Bull, Skip James, P J Harvey, Sparklehorse, Love, Velvet Underground and Stooges.
- Countless songs have inspired me in one way or another, like: ”Waterloo Sunset” with Kinks, ”Be Bob A Lula” with Gene Vincent
”Bye Ya” by Thelonius Monk and ”Les Sucettes” with Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg.
