bio: Two guitars, one moog, a drum machine and a microphone form the marauding tapestry of sound that is Manhattan-based Dead Combo.
Composed of Finnish underground rockers - Nuuti Kataja on vocals, guitar & moog and Harri Kupiainen on guitar-- Dead Combo features two veterans of the scene who didn't even think to collaborate until 7 years after their first meeting in a New York City bar. One late November night in 2002 a mutual friend asked if Harri & Nuuti wanted to play at a party he was throwing. Later that night, they agreed. Little did they realize that this spontaneous collaboration would become the birth of Dead Combo!
Pre-Dead Combo, Harri and Nuutti were members of several seminal punk rock and hardcore bands that transcended the genre rulebooks (from garage-y rockabilly soundtracks to psychedelic go-go dance). This all ended with their decision to play for their friend's party, Dead Combo has since continued to play regular dates around New York City and across the globe forging a reputation as one of the best new live acts around, They have recently performed shows across the UK as support to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, as well as performing as alongside LCD Soundsystem and 2Many DJs in Glasgow, and slots at Sonar, Return To New York, Trash, Club Suicide and numerous other clubs around the world.
They release their debut single "You Don't Look So Good" in a few weeks, a symphonic cacophony of feedback, arching synths and swing punk rock skronk, released on Trevor Jackson?s Output Recordings label (home to artists like Colder, Black Strobe, Playgroup, LCD Soundsystem, Mu and others). The single, released on August 2nd and backed by a spectacular cover of Bowie?s ?Lets Dance?- recorded live at CBGB?s, and fucked up reworkings courtesy of the hotly tipped Jackson and Berlin?s mysterious Otherfucker.
Their self titled debut album follows on August 16th on Output Recordings. It?s a bold, cocky, brash; an amazing trip through ten songs that document their own unique world. Sweat, noise and hedonism, will run rife through your headspace. Here is the sound of New York City, bustling noise, hectic and overwhelming, sexy and fun, with a little Finnish je n?ais ce quoi thrown in for good measure. Their collaborations with other artists include a music video for "You Don't Look So Good" shot by legendary director Abel Ferrara.
