bio: With her driven spirit, Tracy McKnight has earned a place in the entertainment industry as a highly respected music supervisor, record producer, label co-founder and company head.
Ms. McKnight´s music supervision projects proudly embrace a range and diversity of genres. Many of her over eighty films have won acclaim from recognized film festivals including Sundance (Dedication, The Ten) and Tribeca (The War Tapes, Purple Violets). A number have been praised with industry nominations and awards including The Academy Awards (Born Into Brothels, Murderball, My Architect) and The Independent Spirit Awards (Friends With Money, Raising Victor Vargas).
Ms. McKnight moves between independent and studio music supervision projects. Her latest films include work with directors Lasse Halstrom (The Hoax), Jesse Peretz (The Ex with Zach Braff and Amanda Peet), Steve Conrad (Quebec with John C. Reilly and Sean William Scott) and Leon Ichaso (El Cantante starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez).
In 2003 Ms. McKnight co-founded Commotion Records with former CBS honcho Walter Yetnikoff, with the vision to bring innovative music from groundbreaking films into the world. Commotion’s releases include Hotel Rwanda, Happy Endings, Mysterious Skin, The Cooler, Code 46 and the genre-bending singer/songwriter Chocolate Genius Inc’s Black Yankee Rock.
In addition to her work, Ms. McKnight is devoted to the enrichment of the film and music communities. She has served as a consultant for the Independent Film Project (IFP), is a regular speaker with BMI, is serving on the jury of the 2007 Gotham Awards, and was on the 2006 Silverdocs Best Music Documentary jury. She has a long-standing relationship with Sundance, having sat on the Sundance Mentor Committee for the Mark Silverman Award, participated as an Advisor for the Sundance Producer’s Label Lab and Composer Lab, and co-programmed the Music Café at the Sundance Film Festival for several years. Ms. McKnight was named one of 2006’s Top 25 people to know in independent film by MovieMaker Magazine.
Ms. McKnight’s kinetic enthusiasm pushes her to continue to find new ways to share her passions with an ever-growing audience seeking quality films and music. She also bakes a mean coconut cupcake.
