>> Grand Central
bio: The label started in the spring of 1995. Mark Rae had been running the Fat City Record Shop and DJing at some of Manchesters most progressive and cutting edge nights. He recognised the talent and creativity that was coming into Fat City, people like Aim and Funky Fresh Few were travelling miles from Blackpool and Barrow In Furness looking for old records to sample and new breaks at Fat City. A fact finding mission to New York brought back Tony D. His 'Central J. Parlay' EP was licensed to GC in the UK and became Grand Central's first release. The first 15 releases include Aim?s first 12?s, the are ?Concentrate?, ?Soul Dive? and ?Loopdreams? - the original plates for these (used to press the vinyl into records) were destroyed in a freak accident at the Pressing Plant, adding to the legendry status of these early Aim Records. More recently, the 12?s have been brought together in a limited Edition Aim Compilation ?Means Of Production? (GCCD119 ?Means Of Production? 2003). Andy Votel, now label manager for Twisted Nerve Records in Manchester home of Badly Drawn Boy, vented his electro/hip hop/psychadelic spleen with Grand Central in those early days, for a taster of his more recent stuff check his remix of Aim?s Girl Who Fell Through The Ice (GC158).
