bio: François K. was already a dance music pioneer when he founded Wave Music in 1995. Having established himself as a sought-after and innovative DJ, producer, and recording engineer, he then set out to create a new home for music with integrity and lasting presence: Wave Music. The idea was to disregard traditional genre boundaries or categories and instead focus on capturing the most current trends in dance and artist-oriented music and place them within a framework of older, classic recordings. It didn’t take long for Wave to establish itself as one of the premier sources of timeless dance music with broad appeal. The most fundamental part of Wave’s philosophy is a focus on the longevity of each release. François’ broad and deep knowledge of electronic music creates a difference in quality noticeable to artists and fans alike – the DJ Magazine cover-mount CD featuring six Wave Music tracks was voted by readers to be number one of the decade! Some of the highlights of Wave Music’s CD catalogue include the hit compilation series Body & Soul, based on one of the world’s most highly revered underground house parties, the Bossa Mundo albums, two collections of deep, jazzy grooves, the Deep & Sexy series, four compilations of the most sultry, soulful house music mixed by Francois K, Ron Trent, Matthias Heilbronn and King Britt, the Deep Space compilation stemming from Francois K.’s weekly Monday night at Cielo, a sound that can be described as an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes and abstract grooves, the four Beat Pharmacy albums on the Deep Space Media imprint as well and François’ Frequencies double CD on the WaveTec sub-label that explores a more techy and minimal sound and is a reflection of his DJ sets in Europe. Wave Music is still selling backcatalog on vinyl, mainly via Downtown 161, who is also now handling all website orders and since 2009 is releasing new releases on vinyl through a P&D deal with Topplers in France.
